Every mutual fund's advertised CAGR is a trailing point-to-point return — the growth of a lumpsum invested on one specific date and redeemed on another. It does not represent the experience of an SIP investor who invested gradually over years. The Fund Returns Calculator lets you backtest a real SIP on any of the 1,800+ funds on this platform using 10 years of actual AMFI NAV history, computing the true XIRR of that investor's experience.
Backtesting reveals the gap between advertised and actual investor returns — often called the 'behaviour gap'. During a bull run, a fund might show 18% trailing 3Y CAGR; but an SIP investor who started at the peak, continued through the drawdown, and is sitting on the unredeemed corpus mid-cycle might have an XIRR of 8–10%. The backtest shows the actual rupee-value of each monthly investment at today's NAV.
When interpreting backtests, look for consistency across multiple periods rather than peak performance in a single cycle. A fund with 14% XIRR across three different 5-year backtest windows is more dependable than a fund showing 20% in the most recent window and 6% in the prior one. Rolling return consistency is the hallmark of quality fund management.
This calculator uses live NAV data from AMFI India to backtest any SIP scenario. Select a fund, enter monthly investment amount and start date, and see the corpus, invested amount, absolute gain, and XIRR. Data covers up to 10 years of daily NAV history.
